VMware vSphere with Kubernetes Design

If you want to use VMware vSphere with Kubernetes, you have to buy this as VMware Cloud Foundation and as a minimum standard edition.

The reason VMware vSphere with Kubernetes at the moment is only available a VMware Cloud Foundation is that there is a requirement for NSX-T licenses also, so the argument is that, to garanti the this requirement is forefilled, is to sell it as VMware Cloud Foundation. This may change in the future, and I really hope that it will, since this will make this more attractive to the SMB segment.

The original design dictated that i was only allowed to enable vSphere with Kubernetes on a workload domain, and not on a consolidated design where the management and workload domain i using the samme hardware, that means that the requirement was a minimum of 7 ESXi hosts, and a minimum of 7 CPU licensens.

But fortunately VMware now has certified a consolidated design, so the minimum now is 4 hosts and 4 CPU licensens.

See the VMware annoncement for this in this blog.
